Sr. OpenEdge Developer

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior OpenEdge Developer within Wayfare, you will design, develop, and maintain software solutions built on Progress OpenEdge technologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, participate in architectural decisions, and drive high-quality delivery throughout the full software development lifecycle.

You will work independently, provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced colleagues, and act as a technical reference point within the project. Your contribution will shape both the technical direction and the working methodologies of your team.

This role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience with Progress OpenEdge, strong analytical abilities, and a high-level functional understanding of complex business applications.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Progress OpenEdge (ABL)
  • Participate in defining technical solutions, architecture, and development strategies
  • Analyze requirements, create technical specifications, and estimate development effort
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and refactor existing code to improve maintainability and performance
  • Collaborate closely with QA, BA, DevOps, and PM to ensure high-quality delivery
  • Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to team-wide improvement initiatives
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers.

  • Progress ABL / OpenEdge 10+
  • Progress RDBMS
  • Progress Appserver and PASOE
  • Relational database design (RDB design)
  • Version control systems (e.g., Git, Mercurial, SVN, Roundtable)
  • Proven experience with OERA and frameworks that implement n-tier architectures

 

Skills that give you an edge:

  • UNIX
  • Sonic MQ and ESB
  • HTML, XML
  • UML
  • Experience with modernization or migration projects
  • OpenEdge database administration and configuration
  • Experience with CI/CD or DevOps pipelines is a plus
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus
  • Experience with Elastic Search and Grafana is a plus
